Civilization created glass thousands of years ago, and yet we are still fascinated by the substance. The simple raw materials and the skill of craftmanship result in a wonderful material with extreme variety and unending forms and colors.
In artistic glass blowing three different types of glass are used:
- Soda glass, prepared from sand and soda (mostly used for Venetian glass)
- Potassium glass, prepaired from sand and ash of plants like fern (often used by the Czech glassblowers)
- lead glass, produced from sand and lead-oxide
(used by the Scandinavian blowers and often very heavy)
